NSFAS Allowance Details clarified by Minister on Lockdown
Blade Nzimande spoke at a press conference as The Social Cluster details its plans during the 21-day national lockdown. Nzimande offerred reassurance to NSFAS beneficiaries.
The Minister spoke officially addressing what this lockdown means for higher education.
Many students who are funded by NSFAS have been concerned about whether their allowances will be paid or not.
Minister Nzimande has said NSFAS allowances are still being paid to institutions and then paid to students. Lectures are suspended but this suspension does not apply to allowances.
The lockdown will not affect students NSFAS accounts and students will still receive their allowances.
NSFAS released a statement last week stating, “We can firmly confirm that NSFAS is implementing measures to ensure that payments and processing of applications is not affected. We will continue to focus on ensuring business continuity and adequate support for our stakeholders who require assistance during this time.”
