Matric Exams postponed 2020 due to Covid-19 Outbreak

The May/June Amended Matric Exams postponed  2020 (Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate Examination) by the Department Of Basic Education due to Covid-19 Outbreak.

The May/June Amended Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate Examination has been postponed by the Department Of Basic Education.

More than 350 000 part-time candidates, those who did not pass the 2019 final examinations, as well as those who were looking forward to improving their marks, were going to sit the May/June Amended Senior Certificate Examination test.

Mr. Mathanzima Mweli, the Director-General of the Department of Basic Education, wrote a letter to the Heads of the Provincial Education Departments stating the changes to the plan for the examinations.

“The advent of the COVID-19 virus has lead to the early closure of schools during the first term and the declaration of a 21-Day Lockdown by the President of the Republic of South Africa, commencing from 26 March and concluding on 16 April 2020.”

“The lockdown has since been extended to Thursday, 30 April 2020. This has resulted in a disruption to schooling and hence the writing of May/June 2020 examinations has to be rescheduled,” said Mweli.

The May/June 2020 examination was scheduled to begin on Monday, 4 May 2020 and end on Friday, 26 June 2020.

“At the HEDCOM meeting of 10 April 2020, it was agreed that the May/June examination should be merged with the November 2020 examination,” said the Director-General of the Department of Basic Education.

Regarding the merged June and November examinations, will be communicated to all concerning students.

Candidates will be informed regarding registration, examination centers, and timetables.

All students are encouraged to continue their preparation for the examination. Learning and revision material has been made available on the Department website.

The Second Chance Matric Support Programme link on the website is still available to assist those who have been studying independently as part-time candidates.
