UCT Minimum Admission Requirements are essential for 2024 prospective students because not meeting the requirements may stop you from studying any of the courses.

 

The Management of University of Cape Town (UCT) has beforehand published the minimum entry requirements for admission for 2024/2025 academic session. The published requirements are only the minimum requirements for all courses, each course has its own specific admission requirements.

UCT Minimum Requirements 2024

Here is the breakdown of the minimum admission requirements which every student must meet irrespective of your course of choice.

The minimum requirement for admission to a Bachelors degree programme is an NSC with an achievement rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50 – 59%) or better in four subjects.

No person may be registered as a student in a programme of UCT, unless he or she has complied with the following

General admission requirements for UCT

  • The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.
  • To confirm eligibility for admission to undergraduate certificate study, applicants must consult the Admissions Office or the faculty concerned.
  • Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
  • Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information please visit the website of the Matriculation Board.

Minimum language proficiency

All applicants must have attained a certain level of proficiency in English and are required to submit evidence of this, as outlined below, as part of their application to study.

South African Senior Certificate undergraduate applicants

  • South African Senior Certificate undergraduate applicants to UCT must have achieved a pass of 40% or more on the Higher Grade in English (First or Second Language) at Senior Certificate level.

South African NSC undergraduate applicants

  • South African NSC undergraduate applicants to UCT, must have achieved a rating of 2 (Elementary Achievement, 30-40%) or better at Home Language or First Additional Language level.

Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Meeting UCT’s minimum requirements does not guarantee your admission, remember they are only the minimum, you do not want to just be barely above the minimum.

If there is low space available for admission, the university is most likely to admit those with better performance.

Secondly, each course has their requirement either slightly or measurably above the general requirements which you must also meet. No person who does not meet the requirements may complete UCT student registration.
