Over 70 000 applications across all five districts in the province have already been received by the department and so far no challenges have been reported.

In order to apply online follow these steps,

parents must log onto the department’s learner admissions website and complete the three-step application process.

During these steps, the parent or guardian will complete registration, learner profiling and the application.

The following documents must be submitted within seven days of starting the application process:

• South African citizens must submit the following:
  • Copy of the parent/legal guardian Identity Document (ID) or card or a sworn affidavit if the person does not have an ID.
  • Proof of home address
  • Child’s birth certificate or affidavit or sworn statement
  • Clinic card as proof of immunisation (Grade R and 1)
  • Most recent Grade 7 learner progress report.
• Non-South African citizens must submit the following:
  • Parent or legal guardian passport or similar documents
  • Learner valid study permit, asylum seeker, refugee permit or temporary or permanent residence issued by Department of Home Affairs
  • Proof of home address
  • Proof of immunisation (Grade R and 1)
  • Most recent Grade 7 learner progress report

Due to the fact that there are many rural areas experiencing poor internet access which may impact the online application process. Therefore to check this problem, 83 walk-in centres have been provided to assist people with completing applications.
