Minister announces Final Matric Exam Deadline

Final Matric Exam Deadline has been announced by the Minister Angie Motshekga.

The Minister stated that the Department of Basic Education will be making all of its services available under lockdown level 1. This comes as the department is preparing for the combined final exam.

Motshekga said Covid-19 created a need to restructure the final matric exams. As a result, June exams were postponed & will be written together with the end of year exams.

This means that more than 1 million candidates will sit to write the final exam, this is the highest number of candidates the department has had to deal with.

Final Matric Exam Deadline

The exams are scheduled to start on 5 November 2020 and Thursday 5 November and will end on Tuesday 15 December 2020. 

The late start of the exams will give the department enough time to plan and manage the exams for all of those scheduled to write them.

“We’ve certainly never had such a big number before” said Motshekga.

Minister Motshekga said Exam papers have been audited and protocols have been put in place to make sure things run smoothly.

Results Date for Final Matric Exams

Results will only be released on 23 February 2021.

“The Minister wishes to reassure all Grade 12 learners that they will be fully supported in their preparations leading to the writing of 2020 Grade 12 examinations, despite the challenges that this year has presented.”

“It has been a very difficult year but there’s still an opportunity to get work done”

The department is no longer accepting registrations for the final exams, as registrations have now closed.
