The CFO has a critical role in supporting the University’s strategic development, providing direction and oversight, and driving financial and operational performance. In providing strong leadership to the finance function, sustaining a culture of high performance and customer service with clearly articulated and agreed goals.
The incumbent is expected to challenge the status quo in the planning and delivery of services, driving improvement and introducing new ways of working.
Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (Peromnes level 4)

Salary: 1,398,329.00 – 1,398,329.00 Annually
1. Develop financial policies and strategic plans for the section and institution.
2. Manage the Finance Section, including overseeing the operation of the following units:
•Accounting Services, which include Payment services (payroll) and Assets Management
•Procurement and Central Stores
•Student Accounts, Bursaries and Loans
3. Ensure financial sustainability of the institution in the long term
4. Develop, implement and monitor a budget for the section and institution.
5. Manage the performance and development of staff of the Finance Section
6.Provide Financial reports to Executive Management and Council
7.Represent the University at external forums
Note: This post reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Resources and Operations
Nature of appointment
Five-year Senior Manager performance-based contract
Minimum salary scale (Total Cost to Company)
R1 398 329 per annum
Candidates will be recruited and appointed in accordance with the Employment Equity and Affirmative Action Programmes of the Central University of Technology, Free State.

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or
Experience•Post Graduate Degree in Accounting and completed articles at a registered audit firm.
•8 years relevant experience in a financial environment of which at least 3 years should have been at a management level in a Higher Education environment
•In depth knowledge of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Higher Education Act and Tax Act
•Knowledge of the Integrated Tertiary System (ITS) or any reputable equivalent Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System
•Good understanding of the latest King report on Corporate Governance
•A business and/or commercial leader operating at Board/Council level
•Excellent technical finance skills and be a confident communicator able to influence across a multifaceted/ multi-stakeholder organisation
•Capacity to think strategically and innovatively and will be adapt at working in a changing and complex environment
•Committed to CUT’s values, demonstrating an ability to balance a commercial perspective in support of the overriding mission of the university
Desired Qualification/ Knowledge And/Or Experience
•10 Years relevant experience in a financial environment of which at least 5 years should have been at a management level in a higher education environment advert
