The Management of University of Pretoria (UP) Undergraduate Application for 2024/2025 academic session will open on 1st April. All study programmes at the University of Pretoria are number-limited. Therefore, it may do you well to submit your application as soon as possible after 1 April.

- Internet Access
- an active email address to complete the application (a student number (EMPLID) will be sent to this email address as confirmation of receipt).
- you will be required to capture your South African National ID number or, if you are an international applicant, your Passport number as part of the application process.
- Every first-time undergraduate applicant will need to capture their School and School results, they include:
- Your year-end Grade 11 marks, or
- If you have already completed Grade 12, your final Grade 12 results.
- You will later need to scan schools results so that it is available to be uploaded.
- For postgraduates, you will capture the details of your previous degree(s), eg Degree description, institution and year of graduation.
- A comprehensive certified academic record will need to be scanned and uploaded, as well as a certificate of conduct.
- Faculties may later require additional and/or original documents, depending on their specific admission requirements.

Follow these steps to send your application to the University:
- Complete the full online application form, click here to apply online now.
- When you access the Online Application you will be requested to provide an email address to which you will receive communications.
- You will later need to scan your ID/Passport document so that it is available to be uploaded.
- If you have never studied before or have not obtained any degree yet (new first year students), please select Undergraduate career.
- If you have already obtained one or more degree/s, please select Postgraduate career.
- Uploaded all the necessary scanned supporting documents in .pdf format, AND
- Either pay the application fee by credit card OR uploaded proof of bank deposit at Standard Bank, Account Number 012602604 (see checklist).
- If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted.

- When you get to the screen where you are requested to capture the marks, please capture the correct marks and in the right sequence as reflected on your school document. Not doing so may cause the University to deny you admission.
Tip: Ensure you provide correct information because once you submit your application, You will no longer be able to do any further editing of your application via the Online Application system.
What Happens after application
- The University of Pretoria will allocate your Student number and send the details to your email within approximately 15 working days after submission. Paper applications may take more days. With the student number, you may create a profile as a new user on the portal.
- Successful applicants will receive information on the application and allocation process by September. Candidates who are admitted after December should make enquiries at the Client Service Centre. If you will apply for bursary, do so before the closing date, 31 October. For comprehensive information please go to the application fees heading below.
- The University automatically considers Postgraduate students for UP Postgraduate Scholarship provided they enroll before 31 May in the year of study. The Research Committee approves Scholarship awards, approval is not guaranteed. The greater preference is given to students who enroll for a research Masters or Doctoral programme.

Submitting Results & Documents for UP Application 2024
When it comes to submitting your documents, you will need to ensure that your Grade 11 and the latest Grade 12 results are submitted. Failure to do this may result in delays with your application process. All the documents you attach will need to be certified copies of the originals.

UP general admission requirements
- Your admission to UP is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
- If you don’t meet these requirements, you may want to consider alternative qualifications or possibly, if you qualify, an extended programme, enabling you to register for limited modules in your first year.
- Students who completed Grade 12 at the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) School of Tomorrow may no longer be accepted at UP.
- Some UP qualifications have limited spaces available. Meeting the general and / specific admission requirements for a qualification does not guarantee that you will be offered a space for the 2019 academic year.

Online vs Postage/Courier

Your Grade 11 marks are really important for your application. Some universities allow you to use your Matric June marks, so have these at hand!
Financial Aid for UP Application 2024
If your family’s income falls below a certain bracket, you could qualify. This will be a separate form and you’ll need your parent or guardian’s payslip ready for proof.
Current Year’s Activity
If you’re in Matric, the university requires your school marks and school activity details. If you took a gap year they’ll need travelling or working details.

Make Sure all Details are Correct
Fill in your application form slowly and double-check your details before submitting online. If you fill out a hardcopy, use a pencil before filling it out with a blue or black pen.
Pay the Application Fee
Either pay the application fee by credit card OR uploaded proof of bank deposit at Standard Bank, Account Number 012602604 (see checklist).
Signing the Declaration
Read through the form and make sure your details are all true and correct. You AND your parent/ guardian need to sign it.
Acceptance
You will be sent a formal email or letter to inform you of your acceptance. Remember to continue working hard and pay the minimum initial payment by the due date.
Please Note*: For most institutions, you will have to write an NBT test, which will test your academic readiness. Make sure you check up with the institution you’re applying to whether or not you’ll need an NBT result for your application. Your NBT results are valid for 3 years (how cool?) and you only need to write the test once if you’re applying to more than one institution.
