Was your NSFAS application unsuccessful? You may want to appeal to NSFAS for reconsideration. The appeal however should be done with urgency as the closing date though not yet disclosed is anytime from now.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced that there is no set closing date for the appeals for the 2022 academic year. Currently, NSFAS is assessing the appeals and students are urged to monitor their MYNSFAS portal for status updates.

How to track the status of your appeal
After appealing, you can monitor the status of your appeal via the NSFAS Student portal. Start with these steps…
- Click here to visit the myNSFAS portal
- Log into your account.
- Click the ‘Track Funding Progress’.
- Check the application progress tabs.
Once the appeal has been submitted, the status will show ‘Active Appeal’, this means that the applicant has been provisionally approved for funding and their funding is pending final approval.
‘Approved for funding subject to registration’ status simply indicates that the applicant has been approved for funding. If the appeal is denied, the status will reflect: ‘Application unsuccessful’.
NSFAS bursaries are only eligible for students aspiring to study in South Africa’s 50 TVET Colleges or 26 public universities.
After Applicant has been approved for funding, NSFAS will cover their registration fees, tuition, accommodation, books, and transport.
