JB Marks Bursary Scholarship Programme 2021

The JB Marks Bursary are currently looking to fund undergraduates looking for scholarships.

Bursary Details:

The JB Marks bursary provides financial support to individuals who do not have the means to fund their education. It is mainly targeted at funding individuals wishing to pursue a career in mining and related sectors. The bursary is largely aimed at funding South African citizens, but it also does help individuals from outside the region of South Africa.

The Board of Trustees chooses to fund programmes which it finds suitable.

The bursary programme usually funds 200 undergraduate students and 50 postgraduate students.

Conditions of Bursary:

The Board of Trustees reserve the right to terminate the bursary under the following conditions:

the Board of Trustees retains the right to withhold payments to institutions and/ or to terminate the bursary based on the following rationale:

  • If the student abandons the course study within six months of enrolment at an institution
  • If the student receives other financial aid/bursaries

  • tuition
  • exams
  • textbooks
  • extra lessons by tutors
  • meals
  • accommodation
  • capacity-building programmes

How to Apply:

Undergrad applications:

Visit http://www.jbmarksedutrust.co.za/BurseryApplication.aspx and complete the application form.

Submit the following documents along with your application form:

  • Union members payslip (for verification purposes).
  • Certified copy of applicant’s latest school results.
  • Certified ID copies of both the applicant and the union member.
  • Acceptance letter from the tertiary institution or letter verifying your application with the institution.

If you do not receive a reply by the end of December, consider your application unsuccessful.

Postgrad applications:

Postgraduate funding is only available to JB Marks beneficiaries who have just graduated and chosen to continue their studies no more than 2 years after their graduating from their undergrad.

  • Applications are open from the last week of August to the last week of November annually.
  • To apply, graduates must send a motivation letter of up to 1000 words and their academic record to the Professional Development Officer at refilwem@jbmarksedutrust.co.za
