In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.

The Human and Social Capabilities research programme within the HSRC employs a multi-disciplinary group of social scientists and public health specialists who conduct numerous empirical and policy-related studies each year, three-quarters of which are donor-funded. The Human and Social Capabilities division conducts transdisciplinary, intersectional, policy and programme-relevant research to improve health, well-being and promote a socially just and cohesive society.

Job Summary:
The Human and Social Capabilities unit is looking for qualified Project Administrators for the upcoming SABSSM VI project. The incumbents will be based in the Pretoria and Kwazulu Natal Office.

•Provide administrative support to the PI’s of the study;
•Assist with logistical responsibilities including post, courier, office management;
•Provide efficient administrative and organizational support to the project; facilitate printing, equipment and other project requirements;
•Maintain databases and file project related documents;
•Maintain assets database for the Project and ensure that assets for the project are properly managed;
•Preparations of agenda and materials for meetings; minute taking and record keeping of proceedings
•Liaise with Support Services;
•Process claims and other payments;
•Facilitate travel arrangements for Project based staff and data collectors as and when required.
Requirements
•Post-matric qualifications (Diploma or Degree) in Office Administration or Secretarial Management with at least 5 years work experience;
•Previous experience providing admin support on a large research project;
•Knowledge of E-Workflow and RMS systems will be an added advantage;
•Basic knowledge of accounting and financial systems;
•Be able to do basic budget calculations and manage a budget;
•Advanced computer literacy;
•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage in a diverse team and prioritise;
•Understanding research environments will be an added advantage;
•Flexibility, proactive, team player, independence and aptitude for innovation;
•Ability to multi-task work under pressure and after hours when needed;
•Initiative and ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of the office
•Excellent minute-taking
•Excellent verbal and written English;
•Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to interface with, among others, research and administrative colleagues and service providers;
•Confident and prompt planning, scheduling and organisational abilities;
•Sound office management, maintenance, procurement and administration skills.
