Job Summary:
The Head of PMO is responsible to drive the creation, implementation, and management of project management methodologies, principals and frameworks for the organisation. Responsible for the overall leadership and effective performance of the Project Management Office with accountability to deliver consistent, high quality projects, programs and manage the PMO portfolio, including the Program and Project Managers. Ensure the effective management of the Project Program Managers to ensure delivery of projects end to end, including the technical elements of the project (if appropriate to the project) within the requisite timelines, budget, cost and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
PMO Framework Design:
Lead the development of project and program management methodologies, principles, frameworks and tools to ensure that these meet the needs of key internal and external stakeholders.
Establish professional standards for business process and project management – using industry innovations, best practices, standards, methodologies, and key performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Create organizational credibility with respect to all project management deliverables and process efficiencies by instilling the culture of execution, operational excellence, and accountability for outcomes.
Ability to manage Agile and Waterfall projects and hybrid’s thereof.

Project and Program Governance:
Establish and facilitate effective project management governance, oversight and prioritization.
Apply risk management assessment in project planning / ongoing execution and resolves issues and conflicts associated with management of multiple complex high-priority projects.
Ensure that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined within the project delivery and program management office teams, and ensure program and project compliance with the organization’s wider governance structures and processes.

Reporting and Review:
Prepare and deliver regular, effective communications to ensure that leadership and project sponsors are adequately apprised of project statuses, successes, risks and issues, including ensuring projects are budgeted for, monitored and reported through the Project Managers.
Specify and lead the delivery of the project review process to ensure that stakeholders are able to evaluate progress and agree on change at appropriate points.
Provide weekly PMO Reports, Scorecards, and Dashboards to the Chief Executive Officer and relevant stakeholders.

PMO Management:
Leads and directs project management staff and works with department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs.
Lead, direct and be accountable for the overall performance of the PMO team in the delivery of the portfolio.
Develop and manage comprehensive project portfolio, budgets, resource allocations, and costs with overall accountability for portfolio performance.
Lead project management team, establish performance expectations and standards, serve as a role-model and provide leadership direction to PMs throughout project life-cycle.

Leadership:
Through effective inspirational leadership, facilitate the creation of accountable, full service teams who understand and strive to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
Role model behavior and motivate team members in line with the core values.
Take full responsibility for performance of all direct reports, motivating and managing them in relation to quality standards and agreed benchmarks and objectives, focusing on all aspects of sound people management.
Provide support and guidance on career path planning, on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring to direct reports.

EDUCATION:
Matric
Qualification in Project and Program Management or similar
PMP or Prince Certification ad exposure advantageous

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 10+ years of project management experience including managing large scale, complex projects
Minimum 6 years of team leadership experience essential
